Social media. It has become a daily aspect of all of our lives. Vacations, quiet evenings at home and even going to the bathroom no longer exist without some form of online networking, whether it’s artsy pictures of the ocean, funny cat videos or long streams of hashtags. And it is not just moody teenagers and tech-savvy college students who are doing it. The fastest-growing demographic on Twitter consists of people aged 55 to 64. As the web expands, new users are flocking to popular social sites, posting pictures of their homemade brownies on Pinterest, pictures of their grandchildren on Facebook, and pictures of their grandchildren eating homemade brownies on Instagram. These platforms are no longer dominated by their younger users, with constant expansion and increased ease of use appealing to the newer, older audiences. Social media is growing up and does not look to be slowing down anytime soon.
