Boss Babes

October 8, 2020

We love our home office on South Main but most especially, the dreamers who are converting our neighborhood into a social hub. This week, we had the opportunity to chat with the owner of an upcoming establishment, Bodega.

From the outside, Bodega looks like a fun grocery store and tasty bakery, but one of the most exciting features of the store is beyond its outer appearance.

Tasha Monticure is planning a fabulous food spread, but what makes Bodega so unique is that it is a woman-owned small business. Tasha is the epitome of a mojo maker! She shared with us the challenges of starting a small business while in the midst of a pandemic. Her determination to chase her dreams makes her a force to be reckoned with! Sound familiar? Yep, Tasha’s drive reminds us of our very own president, Jennifer Henderson!

Jennifer has a similar spirit to Tasha. After 21 years of being a business owner she said the most challenging part was not knowing how hard it would actually be. Lucky for Jennifer, she had a great support system and team of mentors who helped her become who she is today. She told us she would do it all over again if she could! When asked what advice she would give to women who want to start their own business, Jennifer said “Always be persistent and a little bit crazy. Make sure you have a good banker, CPA, and a mental health doctor.”

The Near Southside community is an inspiration to all who have built their dreams here. As women, we are inspired by “boss babes,” such as Jennifer and Tasha. We hope this inspires you. Find something that lights your fire and pursue it!

Get out there and just brew it!

Cheers,
J.O.
