From The
Intern’s Desk

November 7, 2017

I’m Frida Cossio, J.O.’s newest intern, and I am excited to get started on my path to becoming a PR pro! Last year, I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations and a Business Foundations Certificate. While I love all aspects of public relations, I especially enjoy writing and managing social media.

I’m originally from Fort Worth, but for most of my childhood, I lived in Zacatecas, Mexico, where my mom worked as a chemical biologist. While in Mexico, I spent most of my time exploring and riding my dad’s Arabian horses. When I was in sixth grade, my family and I moved back to Texas, and we’ve lived here ever since. In 2011, I made one of the best decisions of my life—I moved to Austin to attend UT. My time there provided me with new and exciting opportunities; I gained extensive knowledge in PR, traveled to many countries and met inspiring people.

Throughout my college career, I seized every opportunity that came my way. I interned for three important companies in Austin: NeedTo.com, Austin Fashion Week and Capitol City Records. During my internships, I was in charge of social media, marketing, media relations and event planning. These experiences complemented my coursework, as I learned many of the ins and outs of public relations within different industries.

This past year has been filled with many changes. Even though I graduated college and moved back to Fort Worth, having a degree has not stopped me from wanting to polish my skills further. So, I’m earning a certificate in fashion and lifestyle PR.

Beyond my studies and apart from public relations, my other passion is traveling. I’ve been feeding my endless wanderlust because I believe it reveals a different part of me—a more appreciative one. One of the many reasons I enjoy traveling is because it opens my eyes to new perspectives and cultures and it shows me that there is a whole world waiting to be experienced.

One such time in 2015, I had the opportunity to travel throughout Western Europe for a month with two of my closest friends. This trip was life-changing because I got to spend quality time with my friends while experiencing the music, art and cuisine of each city that we visited.

I have many great memories from this trip, but one specific moment in Paris always comes to mind—my friends and I, sitting in a café in Montmartre. While at the café , I had the chance to watch Parisians carry on with their day-to-day activities; witnessing that made me want to experience the city not only as a tourist, but also as a local. Next year, I plan to enroll in a summer course at the IFA in Paris to do just that. It will be the perfect opportunity to go back to Paris and further immerse myself in the culture.

Speaking of immersion… though I’ve only interned with J.O. for a few weeks, I’m already learning greatly from the entire team. I am thrilled to be part of an award-winning agency at the hub of one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country. Seeing how the team works together towards a common goal, to deliver great work and build lasting relationships, inspires me every day. I love being a part of the J.O. team, and I cannot wait to put my perspective and PR skills to work!
