There are currently around 4.95 billion social media users globally. This number will only increase as the social media landscape is constantly changing. Social media has become a large part of people’s lives, and given this importance, marketers and businesses flock to social platforms to connect with their target audience and drive engagement. Here are our main predictions for navigating the most important social media trends in 2024.

AI Integrations Drive Social Media Strategy

We can’t begin a conversation on the latest social media trends without mentioning what everyone is talking about: artificial intelligence (AI). 2024 will be an even bigger year for AI, as it is positioned to reshape the social media landscape after already transforming brand marketing this past year. Generative AI is becoming increasingly common in content development and social media networks. Increasing business use of artificial intelligence is encouraged in various industries and many a social media platform.

A survey revealed that over 40% of social media marketers leverage AI to craft photo and video captions. One popular AI tool is, which has specific tools for writing content for several social media platforms, helping brands keep up with social trends. This allows marketers to multitask and focus on other things, like designing social media posts.

AI tools offer valuable insights into audience behavior and content performance.

OpenAI is an organization founded in 2015, but it took off in 2023. It’s dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence research and development, with ChatGPT being one of its language models designed to generate human-like, text-based responses.

How to Integrate AI Tools Responsibly

There are a number of ways to use AI tools in your social strategies, but you may want to first consider the following. Developing an AI-use policy in collaboration with legal teams will be important to safeguard brand integrity and authenticity. You may still need to alter AI-generated content to align with your brand voice and personalize responses for a human touch. Third, it’s important to think about brand authenticity and how AI may hinder authentic relationships with your audience. Brands must remain authentic and personable to forge deeper connections with their audience and continue to leverage their social media communities.

Also, be aware of your target audience. Gen Z and younger generations are more receptive to AI content, and Baby Boomers are generally less optimistic. AI tools may only positively impact your audience engagement if your brand uses it to target the proper generation.

Influencer Marketing

The role of creators and influencers in marketing continues to rise, reshaping strategies in the digital landscape. As brands recognize their significance, partnerships are becoming more important to help capture the audience’s attention across the top social media platforms.

A Q3 2023 survey found that 81% of social marketers say influencer marketing is essential to their strategy. To effectively collaborate with these influencers, it’s important to prioritize partnerships that align with an influencer’s interests and audience, and allow creative freedom for influencers to create their own social media content.

Even small brands can take part in the influencer trend. Consider engaging nano influencers within your audience for genuine connections. We’re seeing a steady rise of the nano influencers because of their authenticity, niche audiences, and high engagement rate.

Digital Ad Spending and Influencer Marketing

Additionally, digital ad spending is rising and is expected to grow 10% annually after dropping last year. Social media ads are a significant part of this spending, with businesses projected to allocate a growing percentage of their marketing budget to social media channels. Much of this is driven by the increasing effectiveness and reach of platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

As companies increase their investment in influencer marketing, platforms like Instagram and TikTok are seeing substantial growth in spending. You can see how we recently partnered influencers to promote the grand opening of Flix Brewhouse here.

Social media ads are a highly effective form of paid advertising.

Video Content Creation

Video content is at the center stage in 2024, and it’s positioned to dominate online platforms, with an estimated 91% of businesses utilizing this marketing tool. Global digital video viewership is poised to reach 3.5 billion this year. However, the focus is shifting towards short form videos and bite-sized content, which captivates audiences. Research shows 83% of marketers advocate for videos under 60 seconds and no longer engage with long-form content.

Short-form content is crucial for capturing user engagement in today’s fast-paced digital landscape, where the average attention span is 8.25 seconds.

On TikTok

In 2024, TikTok continues to lead the charge in shaping social media trends, with its innovative platform driving the surge in short-form video content, making it different from other social platforms. TikTok’s emphasis on user-generated content, tailored for quick consumption, resonates strongly with today’s audiences. This social media site is estimated to have more than 2.35 billion daily active users, cementing its position as a powerhouse in the social media landscape.

On average, users aged 18-24 spend more than an hour daily on TikTok, presenting an opportunity for marketers to target Gen z, the fastest-growing consumer segment.

On Instagram

Instagram Reels is another emerging trend. As one of the most popular social media platforms for brands, Instagram retains its hold in the social media world, continually expanding its user base. With 62% of Instagram users actively searching the platform to discover brands, it’s clear how significant Instagram is for online content. Reels can help brands amplify their reach and increase vitality, making it a crucial component of any social media strategy aiming for maximum impact and engagement.

Popularity of TikTok Surges with Gen Z

Gen Z Flocks to TikTok

Facebook is still among the largest social platforms in the United States, but TikTok is continuing to skyrocket for younger generations as under 25 crowds are decreasing online. 77% of Gen Z used TikTok in 2023, and more than half, two-thirds, are daily active users. With most of Gen Z being TikTok users, brands need to engage with this social platform to remain at the top of their minds.

When it comes to platforms with user generated content, TikTok leads for Gen Z for its social media trends.

Social Search

Social media is the new search engine. Today, TikTok is the top search engine for more than half of Gen Z. Gone are the days of people using the internet for research. Consumer behavior is changing. Why? Speed and quality. Younger generations are captivated by the latest trends that are shown on TikTok.

To ensure you build memorable brands, keywords remain crucial to keep up with emerging trends. Amplify your reach by search engine optimization of titles, captions, and relevant hashtags.

As the popularity of TikTok continues to soar among Gen Z, marketers must adapt their strategies to reach the potential of this platform. By understanding the unique characteristics of TikTok culture and embracing its creative possibilities, brands can effectively engage with the fastest-growing consumer segment and propel their marketing efforts to new heights.
